Professor Miriam Fernandez will take the stage at the Digital Ethics Summit 2025 on 3 December, joining the afternoon breakout session “Addressing Bias in AI: Lessons from the Fairness Innovation Challenge.”
The panel will explore how organisations can move from high-level AI ethics principles to real, measurable impact. Drawing on the outcomes of the Fairness Innovation Challenge—delivered by DSIT, Innovate UK, the ICO and the EHRC—the discussion will highlight emerging approaches to reducing bias and improving transparency across sectors.
During the session, attendees will hear insights from the the award-winning projects hat tested fairness-focused innovations in higher education, finance, healthcare and recruitment – Miri will be talking about “Promoting Equity in Higher Education: A Socio-Technical Approach to AI Fairness”. Through lessons learned, socio-technical design decisions, and regulatory considerations, the panel will offer an inside look at what it takes to build AI systems that are fair, transparent and aligned with evolving regulations.
